What is a tithe?
Tithing is the practice of giving one tenth of your produce or income to God. Rooted in the story of Abraham (Genesis 14:20), it became a foundational discipline of worship and generosity.
The biblical tenth
Malachi 3:10 calls for the "whole tithe into the storehouse" — the full tenth, given consistently, not just the leftovers.

Ways to practise tithing

- • Gross vs. net — some tithe from gross income before taxes, others from net take-home. Decide once and be consistent.
- • Where to give — the local church is the traditional "storehouse", but many also support missions, charities and ministries.
- • Automate it — schedule your tithe with the same payroll cycle as your income, so giving happens before spending.
- • Above and beyond — offerings and gifts beyond the tenth are acts of generosity, not a substitute for the tithe.
- • Track with gratitude — keep a giving journal. Tithing becomes joyful when you watch God's faithfulness multiply the 90%.
