Radius = waist ÷ (fullness factor × 2π). Add seam allowance (usually 0.5") to the radius and hem allowance to the length when cutting.

Circle skirt styles
The "fullness" changes how dramatically the skirt flares — and how much fabric you need.
Full circle
A complete 360° circle — maximum twirl and drama. Needs a big piece of fabric (2–3 yards).
Half circle
180° — a classic A-line with a gentle flare. Very fabric-friendly, great for beginners.
Quarter circle
90° — a sleek, narrow skirt that still has a soft sweep. Minimal fabric needed.
Cutting guide
Measure twice, cut once — here's how the numbers translate to fabric:
- • Cutting radius — add 0.5–0.75" seam allowance to the waist radius.
- • Total radius — cutting radius + skirt length + hem allowance (1" typical).
- • Fabric needed — full circle: 2 × total radius + a bit, usually a 60" wide piece; half circle often fits a single width.
- • Fold method — fold fabric in quarters for a full circle and cut one quarter pattern, or use double-fold for half skirts.
