The six face shapes
Each shape is defined by the balance of your four key measurements.
Oval
Length about 1.5× cheek width; forehead slightly wider than jaw. Balanced and versatile.
Round
Face length ≈ cheek width, with full cheeks and a soft, rounded jaw.
Square
All widths similar, with a strong, angular jawline and square hairline.
Heart
Wide forehead and cheekbones tapering to a pointed chin.
Oblong
Face length clearly the longest dimension; forehead, cheeks and jaw are similar in width.
Diamond
Cheekbones are the widest point, with a narrow forehead and narrow chin.
How to measure
Stand in front of a mirror, pull your hair back, and use a flexible tape for accuracy.
- • Forehead — across the widest part of your forehead, at the midpoint between brows and hairline.
- • Cheekbones — across your face at the fullest point of the cheekbones, just below the eyes.
- • Jaw — from the widest point of one jaw angle to the other.
- • Length — from the centre of the hairline down to the tip of the chin.
