Nisab threshold uses either 87.48 g of gold or 612.36 g of silver. Silver nisab is lower, so more people qualify.
Who must pay Zakat
Zakat is obligatory for every adult Muslim who is sane, free and whose wealth exceeds the Nisab threshold for one full lunar year (Hawl).
Nisab
The minimum wealth threshold. Compare against gold or silver — use the silver value to be safe.
2.5% rate
One quarter of one tenth of your qualifying wealth is given to the eight categories named in the Quran.
Hawl (year)
Your wealth must remain above Nisab for a full lunar year. Assets bought this year may not yet be due.
