Three separate questions decide what you need: socket shape, voltage and frequency. Confusing them is how devices get fried.
Socket shape
Types A to N describe the physical plug. A travel adapter only changes the shape — it never changes voltage.
Voltage matters
Most of the world runs on 220–240V; the US, Canada and Japan use 110–120V. A 110V-only device plugged into 220V will usually burn out.
Dual-voltage devices
Modern phone, laptop and camera chargers say "100–240V" on the label — they only need a cheap shape adapter, no converter.
