Pixels per inch tells you how finely a display renders detail.

Sharpness

Higher PPI = smoother curves and crisper text. Great for reading and design work.

Retina threshold

Around 220–300 PPI, individual pixels become invisible at normal viewing distance.

Trade-off

Very high PPI on a phone is lovely; on a 24" 1080p monitor (~92 PPI) you may see pixelation up close.
