Run rate = runs ÷ overs. Net run rate = (runs scored ÷ overs faced) − (runs conceded ÷ overs bowled). Overs use cricket notation: 18.3 means 18 overs and 3 balls.
Run rate explained
Run rate is the average number of runs a team scores per over — the heartbeat stat of limited-overs cricket.
Run rate (RR)
Total runs ÷ overs faced. A T20 score of 180 in 20 overs is a run rate of 9.00.
Required RR
The rate the chasing team must hit: (target − runs scored) ÷ (overs remaining).
Net run rate (NRR)
Used in tournaments: a team's scoring rate minus its conceding rate, across all matches.
Overs conversion
Six balls make an over, so "18.3" overs is 18 overs and 3 balls — not 18.3 overs.
- • Convert first — balls = floor(overs) × 6 + (fractional part × 10). For 18.3: 18×6 + 3 = 111 balls.
- • Overs as decimal — 111 balls ÷ 6 = 18.5 overs when computing rate.
- • NRR nuance — if a side is all out, its overs faced are counted as the full quota (e.g. 20 for T20).
