About Punycode & IDN

When you register a domain in Chinese, Arabic or Cyrillic, the registry converts each label to Punycode and prefixes it with xn--. Browsers show you the friendly Unicode version while the DNS looks up the ASCII form. The algorithm — RFC 3492 — encodes Unicode code points into an ASCII representation using a variable-length integer scheme with a bias-adaptation bootstring, keeping domains short and fully compatible with legacy systems.
