Checkout basics
A checkout is the sequence of darts needed to reach exactly zero, finishing on a double (or bullseye, which counts as double 25).
Finishing on doubles
D16, D20 and D18 are the classic finishing doubles — easy to aim at and forgiving of small misses.
Avoid busts
Aiming at an odd single can leave you with an impossible odd number below 40, forcing awkward routes.
The Bull
For scores ending in 50, the bullseye (double 25) is a natural — and showy — finish.

Pro players memorise these key checkouts for match-critical moments:
- • 170 — T20, T20, Bull (the famous "Big Fish").
- • 167 — T20, T19, Bull.
- • 164 — T20, T18, Bull.
- • 161 — T20, T17, Bull.
- • 110 — T20, Bull.
- • 100 — T20, D20 (or T19, D20 for leavers).
- • 32 — D16 (the most common finish in darts).
